Do you ever feel SO busy that you can’t find time to catch your breath? I’m talking about the kind of busy where you are rushing around every day to get the kids to school and yourself to work. You finish work but are late to pick up the kids. Then you get home just in time to cook, clean, and go to bed. And it STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN the next morning?
You’re busy every second of the day, but you never, ever feel productive. And it never stops, not even in your sleep!
I hear ya, friend. I hear ya. This was me, back in 2013. It’s exactly how my life was like every single day in a small town in south Georgia. Let me tell you, I was one hot mess!
My life back then
To everyone else, it looked like I had the perfect southern life. I owned a women’s clothing boutique, which meant that I had just about every girl’s dream job. I was able to bring my one-year-old little girl to work with me every day so I wouldn’t miss seeing her grow up. My husband owned and operated a family business, so we were financially stable. And to top it all off, I was pregnant with our second little girl. Sounds pretty great, right? Well, sort of.
As much as I loved my store and the work I did, I was quickly learning that owning a small business sometimes meant the business owned you. From buying trips to working weekends and holidays, I felt the constant battle of “balancing” my work and family.
My family was growing and needed me at home, and in order for my store to be successful, I needed to be there. I felt guilty no matter where I was.
I wasn’t running my life, it was running me. All I knew at that point was to pray for a change.
That’s when network marketing found me. It was going to change my life, I just didn’t know it yet. My best friend shared her new company and products with me, so I gave it a try and had amazing results. The kind of results that people were complimenting on a regular basis, which made me feel good. (After all, what kind of girl doesn’t like to hear that she looks good?) I began sharing the products with my friends and family and the next thing I knew, I had joined my best friend and started a second business! I bet you’re thinking I’m crazy at this point, right? I kinda thought so too at first!
Despite my busy life, I knew this business was what I had been praying for. It was VERY different from my brick-and-mortar store, completely virtual and NO INVENTORY! (Praise the Lord! Keeping up with Inventory was the devil). And best of all, I could build it alongside my family and around my schedule so that I could do all the mom things I wanted to do. No working holidays, no working weekends!
Was I 100% sure that it was going to work for me? Heck no. But I was willing to give it a chance if it could give me the life I had always dreamed of having because retail sure wasn’t working!
When I started in network marketing, I did not know a thing about it! So, I read the book “The Flip Flop CEO.”In it, I learned that network marketing is just another form of advertising. Most product recommendations come from friends, and that in network marketing, the advertising budget gets paid out to people like me!
That’s when it really clicked for me. I was spending so much money on traditional advertising for my store even though most of our business came from one source: a recommendation from a friend. BINGO! Right then, I realized the value of network marketing and started building my business like crazy.
For the next two years, I continued to build a virtual business alongside my retail business, and I was successful with both. My customers loved that a trendy shop was planted in such an unexpected place! (my little town is no Paris or New York). Plus, I was getting promotion after promotion in my virtual business, I was winning trips, and my paycheck was rapidly increasing. I rose top 1% of my company within a matter of months. I was loving the lifestyle, the flexibility, and the extra stream of income.
But, I still had not solved the problem of feeling guilty and I still had no time. My husband entered his busy season that fall, and I became the manager of the house while he provided for our family. It was hard. Really hard. My kids needed me and my store needed me. The only thing that didn’t need me “as much” was my virtual business, it was BOOMING!
That’s when I realized that I couldn’t keep running two businesses. To me, it became crystal clear which one I needed to keep. If you had told me 10 years ago I would walk away from my dream job for a career in network marketing, I would have called you crazy! But I did, I sold the store, and all the pieces fell into place!
My Life Today
I’m finally a work-at-home mom! And I love every minute of it. At 33, I’m able to run a successful business while being at home to care for my girls and husband. My schedule is flexible enough that I get to fit in everything from being the class mom to playing at home with my youngest and rocking her to sleep for naps. Every day, I have enough time to make the memories that count. I even have time to cook dinner…well, sometimes!
I work for a couple of hours a day, a few days a week because I truly love it! The fabulous team of motivated entrepreneurs I work with is such a blessing. Some have become lifelong friends, so It definitely doesn’t feel like work! I no longer trade my time for dollars and I’m FREE to go and do as I please! I’m exactly where I want to be, for now anyway!
So now you’ve heard my story. What’s yours?
If anything I said struck a chord with you, whether it’s how my life used to be or what it’s like now, I want to get to know you. Maybe it’s time for you to make a change? My mission is to help moms lead the life they want to live around their work and family. I’ve got plenty of experience in the “what not to do department” so if I can offer any advice or help you avoid the mistakes I made, I’m game! My success is no secret and I can’t wait to share how I am finally running my life and business around my family, not the other way around!
